New release includes integrated MongoDB and more
New integrated document-oriented database
Nantucket includes a Beta version of an integrated document database for managing business objects used by developed applications. The solution that has been chosen is MongoDB on to which we have added some very useful features for rights management. It’s possible to define whether individual users have the right to view, create or modify an object.
(note: to activate a collection please send an email to support@runmyprocess.com)
The MongoDB technology was also chosen for the flexibility that it offers, especially in regards to the many search possibilities. Also, due to the schema-free structure of this database it is also possible to include heterogeneous data for business objects.
Other specifics:
- All client databases are separate.
- Each account includes 10Mb of free storage volume and the possibility to create 100 collections.
- Each created collection is in a project.
- The data can be private or public and can be read only.
- Test and live data are automatically separated.
Manage version modified processes are launched in
Previously when a process was in error, it was possible to correct and relaunch the process directly. However, the process was relaunched in the initial version it was created in. Now it’s possible to choose the application version that the relaunched process will follow. For example, let's say that you have a process that was launched in a V1 version. Currently, you have a V3 version in prod and a V1 process that has failed : you can now relaunch it in V1 or V2 or V3 version.
Remote database connector integrated in UI
You can securely and simply connect RunMyProcess to a SQL database behind the firewall, such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, etc. using the new RunMyProcess database connector. The RunMyProcess DB connector is open source and available for download on github. This functionality has been integrated into the UI.
Improved scripting support
Since the previous release it was possible to add your own javascript to developed applications. This feature has been improved and you can also call pre-defined customized freemarker function files from the script.
New report widgets
This version brings a number of enhanced new widgets to the interface builder. The widgets include a new report widget, a improved upload widget and a combined comment and history widget.
- Upload widget - from this widget it’s possible to manage the upload and suppression of a file and it’s also possible to see the entire list of uploaded files.
- Report widget: This widget is now much easier to use and includes a lot of new functionality. You can export reports in csv, generate charts directly in an application, include calculated columns and colored columns, select specific lines in a report and treat them differently
Bridging the Last Mile of Business Automation – Download the White Paper
Written by Phil Wainewright
There’s a paradox at the heart of how a modern business uses information technology. The better we become at automating much of what we do, the more frustrated we become at the daily workarounds that still defy automation and slow everything down. The successful expansion of business automation is bumping up against its limitations.
Those limitations are a sign that there’s something still missing from the latest breed of off-the-shelf and on-demand applications and platforms. On the one hand, they make it easier than ever to deliver automation that helps people work better and streamline business operations. The downside of all this instant capability is an explosion of disconnected islands of automation spreading across the enterprise.
What’s missing is a way to easily link them together to deliver truly joined-up automation that’s responsive to the real-world, daily operational needs of the business.
Individual applications and online services excel at rapidly automating the 80% of functions that are core to their area of operation – but the automation stops at the edge of each application. There are always a few key tasks and routines that just won't fit in the off-the-shelf package. Whether it's overlooked manual tasks or integration between apps and to existing IT, this ‘last mile’ gap often lies in activities that lack visibility or have a low perceived value. But they hamper and slow down every worker’s daily routine. Manifesting the Pareto 80:20 rule, this final 20% of the journey is the source of 80% of the delays, errors and user frustration that mar the success of the completed project.
Understanding how to look for and eliminate those crucial last-mile gaps is the key to fully realizing a modern business automation strategy. Bringing flexible, on-demand automation to these awkward, in-between steps and processes gives workgroups and teams the freedom to evolve their own operations, creating new responses to the fast-changing demands of the modern business environment. This white paper explores how to look for and eliminate those crucial last-mile gaps that are key to fully realizing a modern business automation strategy. Bringing flexible, on-demand automation to these awkward, in-between steps and processes gives workgroups and teams the freedom to evolve their own operations, creating new responses to the fast-changing demands of the modern business environment. "Bridging the Last Mile of Busines Automation" also examines some case studies showing how organisations have been able to bridge those gaps without resorting to costly, cumbersome integration or process management technology.
7 Cloud Software Leaders Rally Around Google Apps
We have joined up with Cloud Sherpas, Expensify, Insightly, Okta, RunMyProcess, Smartsheet and Spanning to form a trusted network of independent software vendors committed to driving awareness of third party Google applications and offering support resources for customers.
The Cloud Alliance for Google Apps will allow customers to simplify their search for the perfect app by filtering choices based on compatibility, rankings in the Google Apps Marketplace and easy integration with existing platforms. In addition, member companies of the Cloud Alliance for Google Apps will receive access to webinars, white papers and resources designed to further customer knowledge.
RunMyProcess is included in the Cloud Alliance for Google Apps based upon its reputation with Google, high Marketplace ranking, simple integration with Google Apps and product review ratings. All chosen members of the Cloud Alliance for Google Apps have been evaluated by existing member companies to ensure they are fully committed to furthering the adoption of the Google Apps platform.
Businesses who turn to the Cloud Alliance for Google Apps can choose from hundreds of apps created by high ranked companies like RunMyProcess. The Cloud Alliance for Google Apps will allow for simplified apps searches in categories such as Customer Relationship Management, Expense Reporting, Identity and Access Management, Project and Task Management, Security and Compliance and Workflow and Integration.
Cloud Alliance members are capitalizing on Google Apps’ considerable momentum in the enterprise. The platform is used today by over four million companies worldwide, and Gartner recently recognized Gmail, a centerpiece Google Apps application, as being enterprise ready.
Still, it is a challenge for Google Apps users to determine which add-on applications are the best. Cloud Alliance solves this problem by uniting the top Marketplace applications for IT administration, CRM, security and compliance, workflow and integration, expense management, identity management, and project collaboration. Users can now more easily identify the best-of-breed applications, easing their selection burden and speeding application deployment.
Cloud Alliance membership requires a meaningful commitment from every participant. For example, vendors must agree to develop deep integrations between their products. Cloud Alliance members must also develop and distribute free “best practices” materials, including white papers and webinars.
Already, Cloud Alliance members have lined up the following “CloudSmart” webinar series:
-
November 16 -- “Get Acquainted with Google Apps” from Cloud Sherpas
-
December 7 -- “Single Sign-On & AD Integration for Google Apps” from Okta
-
January 11 -- “Back Up Your Data” from Spanning
-
January 25 -- “Create Expense Reports That Don’t Suck!” from Expensify
-
February 15 -- “Project Collaboration Your Team Will Actually Use” from Smartsheet
-
February 29 -- “Manage Your Customer Databases” from Insightly
-

Case Study: Pharma firm prescribes itself RunMyProcess
Manual workflows are hard to stamp out. Here’s the story of a major pharmaceutical company that was still using a manual fax and mail system to manage their investment approval process. After switching to Google Apps for messaging, they decided to use RunMyProcess to build their first automated workflow. They were able to reduce process time for budget approvals by more than 85%. The cure turned out to just what the doctor ordered!
Securely connect to your on-premise databases with RunMyProcess open source connector
With RunMyProcess it was already possible to connect to cloud-based databases such as Amazon SimpleDB, Force.com, Zoho DB/Zoho Creator or Google Spreadsheet via web services. But connecting to a database behind the firewall was not so straightforward. It is now possible to securely and simply connect RunMyProcess to a SQL database behind the firewall, such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, etc. using the new RunMyProcess database connector. The RunMyProcess DB connector is open source and available for download on github.
For security reasons, we recommend using the database connector to together with the RunMyProcess Secure Enterprise Connector (SEC). The Secure Enterprise Connector creates an encrypted tunnel between the RunMyProcess platform and a server installed behind the company firewall. Via this SEC client it is possible to connect to your on-premise applications such as your company ERP. Using the new database connectors it's now also possible to expose webservices to your on-premise Databases. The connector is compatible with all JDBC compliant databases (Oracle, DB2, MySQL, SQL server, etc...). To learn how to install the database connector, read this document.
Video: Employee on-boarding management application
Videos are great for showing you the possibilities of RunMyProcess and we try to create them regularly for you. But we love it when our customers create videos of their own to show us what they’ve done! Watch this one from Ron Boulanger (@connect2speed).
Ron found RunMyProcess when evaluating new Cloud apps to offer customers of his company, Performance Advantage. Performance Advantage is a Cloud Apps reseller and services provider based in Toronto. They are experts in leveraging technology to get results.
Every company needs business processes. Big companies can afford large automated ERP systems, but not all companies can. After testing RunMyProcess, watching the tutorials and doing the test projects, Ron wanted to take it one step further. He decided to design a proof of concept app to share internally with colleagues to show what was possible with RunMyProcess.
The application he built is an employee HR on-boarding management tool integrated with Google Apps. It’s a very complete example with features including:
- Employee file creation by HR
- Management approvals of data entered in on-boarding process
- Ability for manager to allocate IT applications, cell phone and other materials
- Option for auto-generation of Google Apps account
- Information that is automatically re-routed to other departments in on-boarding process (logistics, IT, finance, hr, external suppliers)
- Each department has access to their part of the process
- Integration of data in Google Spreadsheet and event creation in Google Calendar
And it only took him a week to build!
Watch the video to see just how much can be done in that short time...
Who said business process automation was only for the large enterprise software customer?
